In Reply.
—We agree completely with Dr DeWitt that pediatricians are generalist physicians for children, much in the same way that internists are generalist physicians for adults. The joint statement of the two boards specifically acknowledges that general pediatricians must also be part of the solution to the overall shortage of generalist physicians. Accordingly, we welcome and look forward to the participation of pediatric organizations in the national discussions of generalism and the training of generalist physicians.
