—OncorMed provides service for the early detection and treatment of cancer through molecular genetics. This service is provided through physicians, geneticists, and genetic counselors. We share Dr Vance's concerns that the public be educated as to the risks, benefits, advantages, and current limitations of genetic testing. Our marketing material, which is available to physicians and genetic counselors, reflects this concern.

We agree with Vance that commercial companies should not be immune to technical and ethical responsibilities involved in genetic testing. All of the physicians and scientists at OncorMed come from academic backgrounds and retain academic affiliations. We work with physicians, bioethicists, medical geneticists, and patient advocates to assure that our services meet the highest standards of quality and integrity.
