To the Editor.
—The classification of reserpine as an example of "inappropriate prescribing" by Dr Willcox and colleagues1 is without justification. Reserpine has been repeatedly shown to be an excellent choice for the treatment of hypertension when used in low doses.2 A recent large Veterans Affairs Cooperative Study comparing different drugs for hypertension in the elderly concluded that treatment with reserpine plus a thiazide had a number of advantages for elderly patients.3
