—Dr Le Gall and colleagues¹ provided customized versions of the Simplified Acute Physiology Score II (SAPS II) and the 24-hour Mortality Probability Model II (MPM II₂₄) to establish the probability of mortality for intensive care unit (ICU) patients with early severe sepsis. On page 647, the authors provide equations for calculating the probability of mortality for both the SAPS II and the MPM II₂₄. The equations for the customized SAPS II and MPM II₂₄ are incorrect and should be as follows:
