COMING MONTHS should bring publication of a prostate cancer conference summary that, federal health officials hope, "may be used as a foundation for developing rational health messages for men at risk and for primary care practitioners who manage their initial care."

The summary will be from the International Conference on Prostate Cancer Screening, Early Detection, and Control, convened in Atlanta, Ga, September 6 and 7 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The key questions before the 260 international and national experts gathered at the conference, and in a sense before the entire medical community, are: What should be the health message(s) in connection with prostate cancer? What do men and their loved ones need to know?
