—Drs Callahan and Person raise points of discussion to which, we are afraid, no clear-cut answers can be given. Opinions about life and health differ among different people. As long as one of us does not claim to know what is best for the other and as long as everybody respects one another, humankind will remain on the right track. We hope that Callahan and Person can accept the premise that for some of us an embryo is already a person, while for others it is, especially in the very early developmental stages, only a potential human being. In particular, the embryos referred to in our article are at the eight-cell stage. Along the same lines, we and others are convinced of doing good by preventing a child-to-be from being sick, but this does not imply that children who are born sick are considered inferior.
