—We appreciate the interest and input from Dr Wallin and colleagues regarding our Commentary on the need for more rigorous standards in the vaccination practices of medical schools for their medical students against HBV. It is unfortunate that many medical students are still not vaccinated against HBV, a potentially lethal pathogen to which they are repeatedly exposed during their clinical years. An earlier draft of our work made it more clear that medical students are not employees and, therefore, cannot be under OSHA's jurisdiction. Our Commentary sought to highlight the OSHA standard on blood-borne pathogens, which rightfully provides employees with the necessary education and vaccination against HBV, as a model for medical schools to emulate in their own vaccination practices for their students. Wallin et al also note that universal childhood HBV vaccination practices promulgated by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices and the American Academy of Pediatrics . . .
