—I also believe that the patient should be fully in formed of the benefits and potential complications of surgery. However, physicians should not transmit a sense of urgency to the patient with regard to either scheduling the surgery or having the surgery. My impression from the conversation in the Clinical Crossroads article1 was that the surgeons were conveying asense of urgency, which should never be conveyed in potentially life-threatening elective surgery.
