The finding that the quality of reporting of RCTs was similar in German- and English-language journals corroborates other evidence recently reported¹ regarding the methodological quality of reporting of RCTs in several European languages. The fact that the authors did not observe improvements in the quality of reporting of German-language trials over time is surprising and may reflect an insensitive measuring tool. Recent evidence² indicates that the quality of reports of RCTs published in a variety of German journals improved over time.

We developed the CONSORT statement to improve the quality of reporting of all RCTs regardless of whether they are funded, designed, conducted, or analyzed by the pharmaceutical industry or others.
