—The article by Dr Grossman and colleagues¹ documents several important points regarding the treatment of hypertensive emergencies and urgencies. The myth of the superiority of sublingual over oral nifedipine is dispelled nicely, and the adverse effects of sublingual nifedipine are equally well illustrated. The concept of a pseudoemergency, in which there is asymptomatic, excessive elevation of blood pressure, is presented to emphasize the prudence in not treating these patients aggressively.
