On December 4, 1996, we¹ announced that the editors of 80 major medical journals had voted on more than 200 proposed topics and had chosen aging to be the most important topic to be addressed in the second global theme issue. Eleven months later, the Global Theme Issue on Aging, cosponsored by Linda Clever, MD, editor of the Western Journal of Medicine; Richard Horton, MB, editor of the Lancet; George Lundberg, MD, editor of JAMA; Magne Nylenna, MD, editor of Tidsskrift for Den norske Lægeforening [Journal of the Norwegian Medical Association]; and Richard Smith, MD, editor of BMJ, has been published. Ninety-seven journals in 31 countries have participated and are listed below; the countries represented are shown on the map.
