Beginning with this issue, continuing medical education (CME) credit will be offered for reading reviews and original research articles in JAMA. To earn credit, readers will be expected to engage in a self-directed, evidence-based, adult learning activity designed to improve the practice of medicine. Those who wish to read JAMA solely to obtain medical information of the highest quality may continue to so as always, but those who wish to take the additional step of using this information to change their medical practices for the better¹ may earn category 1 CME credit toward the American Medical Association Physician's Recognition Award.² This is the type of credit that is required by many states and professional societies for licensure, accreditation, or membership.
