—A very decided shock of an earthquake was felt throughout the greater part of the Eastern and Middle States of our country on Sunday, August 10, at 2:10 P. M. In New York City, the motion of the buildings was sufficient to cause the inmates to rush into the streets in great fright. The motion, accompanied by a rumbling sound, continued from two to five seconds. It was felt from Boston to the western part of Pennsylvania, and south as far as Baltimore and Washington. No serious damage was done to buildings anywhere.
