Computed Tomography for the Evaluation of Thoracic Masses in Children

Abstract
Large chest masses in two young children were evaluated using thoracic computed tomography (CT). Air was identified within the mass four days before it was visible on the plain roentgenograms in one patient. Rapid injection of contrast material with CT scanning demonstrated that the pulmonary blood flow passed through the mass, instead of being displaced by it, in the other child. Thus, both lesions were identified as originating in the pulmonary parenchyma rather than in the mediastinum.
