Physician-Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia in the Netherlands: Lessons From the Dutch

To the Editor. —I read with amusement the Commentary by Dr Hendin and colleagues,¹ who made their case concerning physician-assisted suicide based on the same data used in the articles published last fall in the New England Journal of Medicine,^2,3 but reached a diametrically opposite conclusion.

This situation reminded me of my former professor in medical school in Shanghai, China. Every year he used most of the same questions in the final examination. When asked why he repeated the questions, he replied, "Although the questions were the same, the answers I got might not be the same from year to year."
