The editors of Quality of Life Impairment in Schizophrenia, Mood and Anxiety Disorders: New Perspectives on Research and Treatment have assembled an international team of researchers and clinicians to create what I consider the best cumulative work on the topic of health-related quality of life (HRQL) with regard to severe mental health diagnoses. While this text might seem to appeal only to a relatively narrow group of readers, I believe that takes a too constricted view of this book and the increasingly important topic the authors explore.

Psychiatry and virtually all medical specialties have traditionally assessed the relative success or failure of health care interventions by some objective medical data point such as cost, percent improvement, or number of days in the hospital.
