The editors of Policy and Politics in Nursing and Health Care have provided a rich, intellectually stimulating text that both informs and celebrates nursing engagement in policy and politics. Offering more than 100 distinct topics, the book should appeal to students as well as seasoned practitioners. While primarily intended for a nursing audience, the book offers value to any health professional who wants to shape health and health care through policy and the political process.

The editors have taken on an enormous conceptual, organizational, and qualitative challenge. In 816 pages, more than 150 expert contributors address nearly as many ideas and topics. Although some contributions are theoretical or informational, others are first-person accounts relating to a single particular instance or process. In short, this approach offers much variation for many interests, but it works—and exceptionally well.

So, how do the editors create order in what could be a chaotic enterprise? …
